A day late and ...well, just a day late

We hit the pool last night for 1900 yards of intense swimming. I'm finding I can currently pace myself to about a 21 minute 800, which sets me up for a ~50 minute 1.2 mile swim pace right now.

And that's when I'm just pacing for a long swim. My sprint has made huge strides. Im running around 22 seconds per 25 yards when I'm really going. Ideally I'll be able to harness more and more of that power as we continue to train. And I did all that without my H2o Audio setup. I noticed I miss it when I don't have it though. Music while swimming is really nice.

The day late refers of course to the fact that I hit 317 pounds this morning, a day after deadline to hit this adjusted goal. The fact that I'm down 20 pounds only 1/6th of the way into the year is a great. Even better is that I'm 18 pounds from being under 300 lbs for the first time in several years.

As an added bonus it's 43 degrees out, with light wind and no rain...

... time to inflate the bicycle tires and get outside!

  1. I had the same idea about the bike today.

You know we've been in the "freeze" too long when 40 degrees makes us think we're finally getting great cycling weather!

  2. Exactly. We've had some 40ish weather recently, but none of it was dry enough. If I am going to ride when it's this cold, I want to do it when it's dry.

Last year I rode in much colder, and I'm going to try and do that this fall after I've gotten into shape where I am fast enough to not be out there as long!

  3. Ben! What'd you do with your H2O Audio setup? Never leave home without it ;)

  4. Dana,

I forgot to charge my iPod Sunday night, so it wouldn't have been much worth having with me! These new 5th gen units go through batteries pretty quick!

  5. @Dana -
I wasn't familiar with H20 Audio before your comments but this product looks great!
Adding this and a shuffle to my Christmas wish list (I'm too old for birthday presents!) and thanks for sending me to a site with Laird Hamilton videos.
    You made my day :)

  6. 43 degrees sounds so nice. We should make there by the weekend. That will make my long run much nicer. Just looking forward to seeing the sun. Enjoy your weather & the bike:)

  7. Edie - I have a review on my h2o Audio capture system for the iPod Nano on the site. It's here: http://www.becomingtimberman.com/2010/01/product-review-h2oaudio-capture.html I love it, but they have an even better system for swimming that I'm hoping to get soon (after I pay for all these upcoming races!)

Barb - 43 degrees WAS nice. For the 1 1/2 days it lasted. I woke up at 7 am to 37 and wintery mix with visible snow flakes. Bleh. The weekend weather calls for 44-46 and sunny, so I will definitely spend time this week preparing the bikes to go outside!!
